Every woman does boudoir for a reason that is deeper than just beautiful pictures. We asked Jasmine a few questions about her experience at Black Diamond Boudoir. Here is her incredible story!
Have you ever done a boudoir shoot before? If so, how did your shoot with Black Diamond Boudoir compare with your prior experience?
I have never done a boudoir shoot before, but have always wanted to. I promised myself that I would do it one day. Years passed and there was simply no better time than turning 50!
What did the shoot do for your self confidence, self worth, and self image?
OMG! It's so difficult to put into words what this session and the resulting images have done for me. I was already confident going into it because I worked so hard on myself this past year, but I had a lot of scars and stretch marks to hide. The final images brought me to tears. It was so overwhelming to see the end result of all of that hard work.
What was your favorite part of the session?
I loved it all! I thoroughly enjoyed the makeover, the wardrobe changes and the poses! Heather did a PHENOMENAL job with my face and hair. And Maria did her best to make me feel as comfortable as possible throughout the shoot. I truly felt like a QUEEN for a day.
What was your reason for wanting to do a boudoir shoot with Black Diamond Boudoir?
I have been through a lot in my life. I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was only 13. It destroyed the cartilage in my joints to the point where I was confined to a wheelchair for 4 years during college. At 23 I had both of my knees replaced, which got me out of the wheelchair and allowed me to go back to college and get my degree. After that I had a fantastic career, got married, had a beautiful child (my miracle baby). I also had to have multiple surgeries during this time - primarily joint replacements - to repair all of the damaged joints. To date, I've have 31 surgeries and have so many scars. In 2018, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and spent the majority of that year dealing with flares, multiple ER visits, hospital stays, my dad in hospice and his subsequent passing. Then in 2019, my RA flared massively and I ended up having to go on short-term disability with my job. Ultimately, my doctors advised me to slow down and start taking care of myself. My body was BEGGING me to stop. I already had 4 autoimmune conditions. Sadly, I was forced to quit my job and apply for disability. Then my husband told me he wanted a divorce. That stress brought on a 5th autoimmune condition, peripheral neuropathy. By this time, I had had enough! On February 1, 2020, I vowed to focus on myself and boy did I! I had both of my knees re-replaced that year (the original implants had failed) and I stayed on top of my PT as much as I physically could. My divorce was finalized in August 2020 and I turned 50 in November. Having a boudoir shoot was the FIRST thing that popped into my mind, but my hair was not exactly as I wanted it to be yet. I had stopped coloring my hair back in 2018 to finally embrace the salt and pepper look! It took a LONG time to get it to where it is today and I KNEW I had to schedule a shoot before I turned 51. Currently, I'm still working on healing my body, I am happier than I've ever been and these images were the icing on the cake.
Was the experience what you expected? If not, how was it different?
I honestly didn't know what to expect. Both Heather and Maria were so professional and made the whole experience so memorable.
What was the overall BEST part of your boudoir experience?
Getting my book and sharing it with my family and friends with pride and joy.
How was your experience with hair and makeup? Is there anything you would have changed?
Heather was ON POINT! She nailed my makeup and my hair. I wouldn't have changed a thing. It was perfect.
Is there anything extra you would like to tell us?
Only that both of you are amazing and incredibly talented!
What would you say to someone who is thinking about doing a boudoir session?
DO IT!!!! I promise it'll be the best investment for YOU!
Thank you so much, Jasmine! It was truly a pleasure to work with you! Your beautiful soul certainly shines bright in these stunning images. You ROCKED IT!
